Local Happenings and New Openings
Greenlight Bookstore's annual Find Waldo event is back, with Waldo hidden in local businesses throughout Fort Greene and Clinton Hill all month long. Pick up a passport from the bookstore, collect stamps as you find him, and see how many locations you can check off. You can find all of the participating stores on this map.
After an electrical fire next door to Bar Birba, the team has launched a GoFundMe to help cover staff wages and other expenses while they work through the insurance process and prepare to reopen. If you would like to help support the staff and bridge the gap during the temporary closure, you can find the link here.
A new shipment from Denmark just landed at Lanoba Designs, with fresh pieces making their first showing in-store. Stop by to browse the new collection during their showing from Friday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 5th, 12 to 4pm each day.
Free Summer Meals are back starting June 29, offering free breakfast and lunch across New York City for anyone 18 and under. No sign-up, ID, or paperwork is required—just show up at participating schools, parks, libraries, and community centers to grab a meal. Here are some nearby locations where you can find them:

Summer vacation & maintenance closings:
Dinner Party will be taking a break to enjoy the summer weather from June 29 to July 6. A new menu will be available when they reopen on July 7th.
Welcome Home bakery is taking a well-deserved summer vacation from June 30 to July 7. They’ll be open again on July 8th with a new oven and new menu items.
Emily will be closed for their annual restaurant maintenance this weekend, from July 2 to July 4.

Thursday, July 2 (tonight):
Freedom Summer Series (6 – 8pm): An evening of political education and live music at Brooklyn Peace Center. The program features a teach-in titled “From Plantations to Prisons” led by Janelle Fouché and Jarrett Drake, alongside live performances from Samora Pinderhughes and Healing Project Sound.
Saturday, July 4:
4th of July Day Party (2 – 9pm): Our very own Saint James Joy is heading down to Industry City for a family-friendly day party. It’s a free event with BBQ, food trucks, and of course DJ sets. The soccer games will also be screening for those that don’t want to miss out!
Cookout with Babydudes (12pm+): King Tai Bar is hosting a cookout with a great menu lined up from Babydudes. They’ll be going from noon and no RSVP is required.
Sunday, July 5:
Baile Tropidélico (4pm – late): The event is returning to Friends and Lovers with an all-vinyl tropical party hosted by Radio Ramses and NxN Andres. They’ll be spinning a blend of cumbia, boogaloo, salsa, Latin funk, disco, house, and more. Free entry all night for a laid-back, dance-focused celebration.
2026 British Grand Prix (9:45am): Join the early risers for the F1 in Downtown BK. Doors will be open at 9:45am with a limited food and drink menu will be available at race start (10am). If you’d like to reserve a table, make a reservation with Sound + Fury directly.

Monday, July 6:
Midnight Release Party (10:30pm – 12am): Greenlight Bookstore is hosting a late-night celebration for the release of the final Heartstopper graphic novel. Tickets are $25 and include a copy of the book, along with trivia, themed refreshments, activities, prizes, and a midnight countdown.
Tuesday & Wednesday, July 7&8:
BBQ Night (5:30pm+): The Fly is bringing back their BBQ night to celebrate summer in a saucy way. They’re switching up their iconic chickens for the night with smokey BBQ and have a bunch of other summer sides to go with it. The nights are walk-in only so plan accordingly.
Thursday, July 9:
New York Review of Architecture Summer Party (7pm+): Cool off with an evening of drinks, conversation, and community at DSK in Fort Greene. Tickets include entry plus your choice of the NYRA Guide to New York City or a limited-edition poster, with door prizes from the NYRA archives up for grabs throughout the night. If you act fast, you can snag an early-bird ticket!
