👀 Here’s what’s happening this week:
Local Happenings and New Openings
The very distinctive modernist townhouse on Greene Ave. and Classon Ave. has officially sold, as reported by Curbed. The two-family home, known for its white stucco, glass facade and very orange doors, went for $3.85 million after originally asking $5.2 million. The house was also known for its guerrilla “New York City Housing Crisis” plaque. If that doesn’t ring a bell, the townhouse became a highly coveted spot for Knicks watch parties, with a projector set up across the street. Its new owner, a family from the suburbs, plans to turn it into a single-family home and apparently told the broker, “I’m never going to sell this house.”
Apt. 2 Bread is becoming Boots Bread, a new brick-and-mortar bakery planned for Crown Heights by bakers Carla Finley and Megan Wang of Graindead Bread. Carla, a Clinton Hill local, previously worked at She Wolf Bakery — based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard — before starting Apt. 2 Bread out of her apartment in 2020. The pair is currently raising funds to open the takeaway bakery, with the Kickstarter now live for anyone who wants to help bring the new spot to life.
Speaking of Kickstarter… As of August 23rd Well Nice bar has successfully funded their goal to move from the Hudson Valley to Bed-Stuy!
And the fun doesn’t stop there — Peral, a new CDMX-style taqueria, just opened in Bed-Stuy yesterday, September 2nd. From the teams behind Mexico City’s Cicatriz and Brooklyn’s Olmo, Peral is serving up tacos, guisados, and house-made corn tortillas in a “love letter to Mexico City.”
Fulton Street is about to get a wave of new bars and cafés, with Capiz, LaObra Cafe, and Night Cactus all recently filing for liquor licenses. Capiz is set to take over the former Oma Grassa space as a Filipino restaurant, while we’ve seen LaObra Cafe share some of their journey along the way. Night Cactus remains a bit of a mystery for now, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more 👀
Strange Delight is putting a charitable spin on one of its menu favorites this September, donating $5 from every Fried Green Tomato Po’Boy to Food Bank For NYC for Hunger Action Month. The sandwich is available all month so you can grab lunch while giving back.

Sign up here to be matched with a pen pal in the neighborhood from September 27th through January 3rd. Your address will remain private as you’ll pick up and drop off your letters at Prima — where you’ll also get to meet your pen pal in person once the written correspondence ends! $35 to enter, but you can email NotesToNeighbors@gmail.com if cost is a barrier to entry.

Friday September 4:
Quickies Singles Party @ Friends and Lovers (7pm): Kick off Labor Day Weekend with a(nother) singles party hosted by Quickies at Friends and Lovers. The event will have drinks, music, conversation starters and a little bit of comedy. Tickets are $12.51.
Wednesday September 9:
BMS Open House (2:30pm – 4:30pm): Brooklyn Music School is hosting its Fall Open House, offering tours of its historic building, an introduction to fall programming, and a chance to meet its teaching artists and try out new instruments. The event will also include music theory class assessments, with eligible youth private lesson students able to enroll in a free weekly music theory class.
Friday September 11:
NeighborFest: Hosted by Nicolas Nuvan, this one-of-a-kind festival brings together food, music, and special guests from across New York and around the world. Ler Lers will be among the vendors, joining a lineup of local talent and familiar faces for a day of food, music, and community. Tickets are exclusively available online.
Saturday September 12:
The Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival (3-7pm): Founded in 2010 by musician Eric Frazier, the Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival returns to bring soulful sounds to the neighborhood park! This event is free and open to the public — no RSVP needed. Plan to bring a yoga mat or foldable chair for seating!

Friday September 25 (through Sunday September 27):
Dear Friend Books Closing Celebration: So long, Dear Friend! The Bed-Stuy bookstore will close its doors on Sunday, September 27th. RSVP here for their closing celebration, which begins on Friday September 25th and runs throughout that weekend. Events include movie screenings, a ceramics workshop, live music and a final poetry reading, and everything is free/donation-based.
Sunday October 25:
Court Street Spectacular (11am-6pm): Brooklyn’s last street fair of 2026 will hit Court Street from Atlantic Avenue to Joralemon Street on October 25th. Vendor space is available!
Wednesday November 5:
BKCM’s House Party: Brooklyn Conservatory’s annual House Party returns November 5, bringing 30+ artists, local food vendors, karaoke, and live music across the organization’s space, with VIP tickets now on sale.
