👀 Here’s what’s happening this week:
Local Happenings and New Openings
NYC DOT’s Trick-or-Streets is back for October, turning streets and plazas across the city into car-free spaces for Halloween fun, with activities, entertainment and family-friendly programming. There are several events happening around the neighborhood, so you can celebrate close to home. Here are a few local spots to check out:
Fort Greene: Jitu Weusi Plaza on Putnam Avenue, Fulton Street to Grand Avenue (Thursday, October 22, 10am–8:30pm)
Clinton Hill: Waverly Avenue, DeKalb Avenue to Willoughby Avenue (Saturday, October 31, 5pm–9pm)
Bed-Stuy: Macon Street, Marcy Avenue to Nostrand Avenue (Saturday, October 31, 8am–8pm) and Verona Place, Fulton Street to Macon Street (Saturday, October 31, 8am–8pm).

Bed-Stuy’s School District 16 is included in New York City’s upcoming expansion of its free 2-K program, bringing more early education options to local families. The city plans to add 10,000 seats for fall 2027, expanding access to more than 12,000 families across the five boroughs. The expansion will also reach every school district in the Bronx and Staten Island, alongside additional neighborhoods elsewhere in the city. Applications for fall 2027 are expected to open after further details are announced.
Private Picassos’ 2027 school break camp enrollment opens in less than 2 weeks on Monday, November 2. Spots tend to go quickly as the camps continue to grow so if you’re hoping to book a spot for your little artist, it’s worth signing up early.
I've been seeing so many spooky and fall-flavored treats (and drinks) making their way onto menus lately, so here's a roundup of some Halloween sweets to try before the season is over:
Okay, now I’m off to do some serious Halloweenmaxxing 🧛
