👀 Here’s what’s happening this week:
Local Happenings and New Openings
A Clinton Hill townhouse where Patti Smith and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe lived in 1967 is back on the rental market for $17,500 a month. The pair paid just $80 a month for the second-floor apartment, and the 1901 home has since been renovated with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a backyard and a rooftop deck. Quite the rent increase from their early days in the neighborhood!

📸: 6sqft.com The A and C trains are getting a $1.9 billion signal upgrade funded by congestion pricing, replacing technology that dates back to the 1930s. The project will cover 42 track miles and 23 stations along the Fulton and Liberty lines, including High Street, with the goal of improving service reliability. The work is expected to bring years of construction, including potential weekend and overnight service changes along the way.
Alloy’s proposed development in Downtown Brooklyn, near the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Fort Greene, would bring 1,502 apartments to the site of the former Boys & Girls Club Navy Yard clubhouse and P.S. 287, including 300 permanently affordable units, plus a new school and community center. But residents of the nearby Farragut, Ingersoll and Whitman NYCHA Houses are pushing back against the proposed 73- and 63-story towers, calling for lower buildings, more affordable housing and stronger construction protections. The rezoning is now under public review. BK Reader has more info.
This Sunday, November 1, the NYC Marathon is making its way through Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, with runners heading down Lafayette Ave. around mile 8. It’s a fun one to watch from the sidelines, so expect plenty of cheering, music, homemade signs and neighbors coming out to support everyone making their way through the 26.2 miles. If you need to cross the route, pedestrian crossings will be available at Lafayette Ave. and Fulton St., so plan accordingly if you’re heading out Sunday morning!
A quick reminder that early voting is underway for the November 3 general election, with Election Day just around the corner! You can vote early through Sunday, November 1, or head to the polls on Election Day. Check here to find your your polling location, voting hours and what’s on your ballot.
