Local Happenings and New Openings

• Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s new “Bus, Club” initiative is encouraging New Yorkers to use public transportation for a night out rather than spending $50+ on a rideshare to get home. Kicking off with the B44, the initiative highlights nightlife spots along the route and encourages riders to “Have fun, get home safe, save money.” This initiative is part of a larger $882 million, five-year investment in NYC’s bus system aimed at making service faster and improving priority routes across the city. The B44 runs right through Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights along Nostrand Ave. We made a Google Map Guide for spots along the route, and the full list can also be found here.

  

• Bottega Social Club shared with us that they’re expanding with two new spaces, starting with a new location in Crown Heights opening just after Labor Day. Next door to the existing Bottega Café & Bakery, Bottega Bakery, Books & Market will offer a little more room to shop, eat and hang out.

  Next, they’ll land in Fort Greene with a more compact, mostly grab-and-go location at 157 Washington Park, right along Fort Greene Park. Expect sandwiches, coffee, pastries, focaccia, gelato, juices, beer and spritzes to go, with the park serving as the ultimate patio when the new spot opens next spring.

• The Great PUPkin is just two months away from taking over Fort Greene Park with Brooklyn’s biggest and oldest dog costume contest! They’re looking for volunteers to help bring the event to life, as well as sponsors who want to get involved and support the annual neighborhood favorite. Registration to enter opens on September 21st with the event taking place Saturday, October 24, with Sunday. October 25 as the rain date.

• Russ & Daughters is teaming up with West Elm on a new holiday collection, bringing the iconic New York shop’s signature style into the home. The collection includes dinnerware, trays, linens, decorative pieces, entertaining essentials and a menorah inspired by Jewish traditions and the rituals of gathering. With Russ & Daughters’ 18,000 sq. ft base of operations and public Jewish bakery right here in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, it’s especially fun to see this local fixture make its way onto holiday tables beyond the neighborhood.

• Empanada Loca is now open in Albee Square, bringing freshly fried empanadas to Downtown Brooklyn. They’re serving them hot alongside Mexican sodas, making for an easy grab-and-go bite while you’re out and about. They’re keeping things simple as they get settled in, with a full menu still to come.

• The team behind Fort Greene’s Strange Delight is opening a new bar and grill called Triangle at 87 S Elliott Pl. Located in Fowler Square, the new spot will be a small, cozy space with 24 seats at tables and seven at the bar. It’s expected to be open from noon to midnight daily. They are currently slated to open this fall/winter and have promised to serve Guinness 👀.

• Anya Yoga is officially open at 900 Fulton St., founded by Tochi Anueyiagu, with a full class schedule spanning yoga, Pilates and sound baths. Their offerings range from Kundalini to Sculpt, giving you plenty of options depending on what kind of movement or reset you’re looking for.

• Olivino Wines is back at 905 Fulton St. after their lengthy renovation. The longtime neighborhood wine shop has a fresh new look, with owner Katrine back behind the counter and ready to welcome everyone in.

Spike Lee’s Annual BK Loves MJ Block Party (12pm – 7pm): Returning for a seven-hour celebration and longstanding Brooklyn tradition honoring Michael Jackson’s birthday, with a full lineup of DJs spinning his biggest hits. The free outdoor event in Fort Greene Park will bring the neighborhood together for a day of music, dancing and community.

Know Your Neighbor (3pm–6pm): Clinton Hill Fort Greene Mutual Aid is hosting a community gathering at Greene Garden, bringing neighbors together to connect, share food, and build local networks of support. The whole family is welcome, and guests are encouraged to bring something to share.

Sunday, August 30:

The LOIRE valley @ Entre Nous (3pm): A five wine tasting led by James Sligh of The Children’s Atlas of Wine, covering everything from Chenin and Cabernet Franc to lesser-known grapes like Romorantin and Pineau d’Aunis. This is a ticketed event.

Thursday, September 3:

Brooklyn Grange at the Navy Yard (3pm – 7:45pm): Outstanding in the Field is making its annual stop at Brooklyn Navy Yard, and it’s the series’ only NYC stop of the year. The rooftop dinner will feature guest chef Mavis-Jay Sanders, wine from Usonia Wine and beer from Other Half Brewing, all with stunning Manhattan skyline views. Tickets are likely to sell out.

Local Happenings and New Openings

• Travel + Leisure just profiled Anthony Ramos and his Bed-Stuy bar, Milly’s, sharing the story behind the Brooklyn native’s first venture into hospitality. The piece dives into how Ramos teamed up with longtime friend Ron Leakey to open the bar, which is named after his mother, Mildred, and has become a neighborhood spot for Caribbean-inspired bites, craft cocktails, and weekend DJs. Ramos describes the vision as creating “a space that almost felt like you were in someone’s brownstone” – relaxed and unpretentious, but still special. • Outdoor dining in NYC is officially sticking around year-round, meaning your favorite sidewalk and roadway setups can now stay open through the winter. Restaurants will be able to apply for permits starting in September, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for which spots around the neighborhood take advantage of the new rules.

• CHiPS, the longtime Brooklyn nonprofit providing food pantry services, community meals, and transitional housing, has expanded into the Brooklyn Navy Yard as demand for food assistance continues to grow. The organization recently moved its pantry operations into a roughly 4,000 sqft warehouse in the Navy Yard, its first physical expansion since it was founded in 1971. The new space is expected to more than double the number of households CHiPS can serve each week, while its hot meal program will remain at its Fourth Ave. location.

  

• Spike Lee is teaming up with BAM for a brand-new two-day festival celebrating all things Brooklyn. Coming this November, the festival will bring together film screenings, conversations with cultural icons, live performances, pop-ups, and a free street fair with local food and music, including a special screening of Crooklyn. Spike is clearly keeping busy creating ways to celebrate his hometown, with his annual Michael Jackson block party also coming up next week.

• Green in Brooklyn is hosting a Tiny Art Gallery featuring small, handmade works from local artists, and they’re currently taking submissions to be part of the opening day lineup in September. The gallery will be set up outside the shop for 1–2 weeks, where anyone can open the door, take a tiny piece of art home for free, or leave a small handmade creation for someone else to discover.

Sunday Asado at Colonia Verde (5pm–8pm): Chef Anthony Verastegui of North Miami Beach’s Barra Callao is bringing his Peruvian Nikkei cooking to the Colonia Verde garden, with a menu centered around fresh seafood, ceviches, and dishes that combine Japanese technique with the bold flavors of Peru. Verastegui runs the intimate 12-seat chef’s counter, which was recently recognized with a 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand. The evening will also feature NAMI, the first Mexican sake, for a cross-cultural pairing of Peruvian, Japanese, and Mexican flavors. Book through Resy.

Local Happenings and New Openings

• Peral, a new all-day taqueria and cafe is coming to Bed-Stuy on Saratoga Ave. from the teams behind Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized Olmo and Cicatriz in CDMX. The menu serves mostly tacos and drinks but will also be a cafe in the mornings. They’re soft opening this week – dates and details are the end of the newsletter.

• Downtown Brooklyn is getting some new stores including Japanese lifestyle retailer MUJI and Park Slope-based bakery and café Winner, both opening at the Alloy Block on Flatbush Avenue. MUJI will be the retailer’s second Brooklyn location, while Winner will bring its sourdough, pastries, coffee, led by Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Daniel Eddy. We also spotted signage for Gap at Atlantic Terminal, so it looks like there’s plenty of new retail on the way.

  

• Classon Convenience has officially opened at the Classon G, taking over the space that was previously home to a Chinese take-out. It’s a pretty busy corner these days with the station getting an accessibility upgrade, so this new addition should settle in well.

  

• Plans have been filed for a new eight-story mixed-use building at 475 Myrtle Ave in Clinton Hill, between Hall St and Washington Ave. The proposed building would have 30 residential units, commercial space on the ground floor, rooftop terraces, and four parking spots. No word yet on when construction will begin, but we’ll keep an eye on it.

• The Brooklyn Navy Yard is now accepting vendor applications for its 9th Annual Holiday Market, welcoming entrepreneurs and small businesses to sell products, promote their brands, or create an interactive installation. Applications are open through September 27, so you can apply here.

• The 16th Annual NYC Pizza Run is coming to Fort Greene Park on September 27, where runners complete a 5K while stopping for slices of pizza along the route. As tickets usually sell out in minutes, they’re doing two drops this year with a limited number of discounted pre-sale tickets going on sale Monday, August 17 at 9am, and the remaining tickets will be released Wednesday, August 19 at 12pm.

• Recycle a Bicycle has moved and officially opened in their new space at 450 Grand Ave. Their program refurbishes donated bikes and sells them at affordable prices, while also supporting bike education, job training, and other programs for NYC youth and adults. So basically, it’s a great place to find a used bike or get yours fixed while supporting a good cause. Their previous location has been replaced with Buddy’s Dispensary.

• For the property lovers, there's a jaw-dropping new listing on Willoughby Avenue that's worth a look. This renovated 20-foot-wide brownstone pairs restored historic details with modern luxuries, from a Calacatta Viola kitchen with a La Cornue range to a spa-like primary suite, heated bathroom floors, and a handcrafted redwood wine cellar. • The Bed-Stuy Block Association is looking for volunteers for their block party on August 9th. They have a variety of shifts and activities like event set up, artist assistance and social media coverage available to sign up for. You can sign up on using this form. They’re also currently fundraising for their new (and first) community large-scale mural on the corner of Jefferson Ave. and Tompkins Ave. if you would like to support the community in other ways!

• Maya Congee Cafe, has launched a new evening concept, Maya – A House of Rice, at their Clinton Hill location. This new dinner service took over a year to execute and is aimed to celebrate the flavors of Chinese cuisine. Owner Layla Chen notes that the “menu is approachable for all types of people and all types of occasions”. You can read more about it on Hell Gate.

• The historic Jacob Riis Bathhouse will reopen on August 7 as the Rockaway Ocean Club. The $88 million redevelopment combines public amenities with a members-only club. The opening will be in two parts with the first including a café, bar, pool, and limited programming, while the hotel, restaurants, and full retail offerings are expected to debut in 2027. Memberships are already available although about 60% of the building will remain public. You can find out more info on their site.

Tell us about yourself (the many things you do outside of Clinton & Greene, fun facts or thoughts you’d like to share with the community!)
I am originally from Australia but have been living here for over a decade. I like hot yoga, spending time by the water, and constantly rotating through crafty hobbies (my real hobby is shopping for hobbies). I’m a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur, avid Citi Biker, and volunteer at @flatbushcats. I work a 9-to-5 in consumer trends and forecasting, and I happen to have the world’s cutest little cat (Junie), which is a completely unbiased take ;)

When did you move to the neighborhood and how did you decide to live here?
I ended up in Clinton Hill on a whim. I came for a summer sublet with every intention of leaving afterwards, but here I am four years later.

What are some of the things you love about the neighborhood?
I love how much people love living here. I have yet to meet someone who feels indifferent about this neighborhood. I also love how scenic it is – I’m constantly pulling out my phone to take a photo of a vine-covered brownstone, the trees changing with the seasons, or the streets packed with people (and DJs) on Halloween.

No Dancing Allowed Vo.1 (6pm–10pm): A new monthly gathering at Prima celebrating thoughtfully selected wines from Emmanuel Muhammad of Aware Wine and @Enology.Prjts. Inspired by NYC’s historic cabaret law, the event invites guests to sip, discover new bottles, and try their best to stay seated once the music starts.

Saturday, August 1:

National Jamaican Patty Day (all day): Golden Krust on Fulton (and all of their locations) is celebrating with a BOGO patty deal. The offer is available in-store at all locations, with delivery app orders also included from July 30 through August 2.

Su’juk Turns Fourteen! (3pm–8pm): Help Su'juk (Clinton Hill) celebrate 14 years with an afternoon of DJs, portraits by film photographer Montana Ray, and a special collaboration drink with Golden Ratio. You can either schedule a portrait session from 4-7pm for 30 minutes of photoplay or do a drop in reservation free from 7-8pm!

Ruiqi’s Pop-Up Bakery (5pm+): The Great American Baking Show winner, Ruiqi, is popping up at Doppelgänger this weekend. They'll have a lineup of sweet and savory bakes roasted garlic focaccia and Earl Grey whiskey lemon cake.

Sunday, August 9:

A very Berry Stoop Scoops (1pm–6pm): They’re back with more small-batch, handmade ice cream flavors like Strawberry Pretzel Jello, Blackberry Miso, and Cherry Limeade Sorbet. We stopped by their last stoop scooping day, which you can check out here to see more about their journey.

Thursday, August 13:

Zine Release Party! (7pm+): Park Slope photographer Noah Eberhart is celebrating the launch of his first film photography collection with an evening at Doppelgänger. Local Happenings and New Openings

• One of the most frequent questions in our DMs is: What’s replacing Dosa Royale? The answer is Iberico, a new Spanish wine bar taking over on DeKalb Ave., first reported by SWURL Media. The project comes from Tamy Rofe and Colonia Verde partner Viridiana Escamilla, with chef Felipe Donnelly creating a menu of classic Spanish tapas alongside wines from across the Iberian Peninsula.

• Natural wine bar, Well Nice, is coming to Bed-Stuy this fall, opening at 1038 Bedford Ave. Founded by husband-and-wife sommeliers Zoe and Joe, the self-built concept is returning to Brooklyn after a stint in the Hudson Valley. The pair met while working at a Manhattan wine bar and have spent years combined in the hospitality and wine industries before launching Well Nice together. They are currently raising funds through Kickstarter to support their move.

  

• Evelina has confirmed with us that their beloved gelato cart will be taking over the former Sushi D space across the street. The team is excited to transform the seasonal stand into a year-round spot with additional flavors, though they have yet to announce an opening date.

  

• Perspire Sauna Studio is planning to open this October in Downtown Brooklyn. The studio will offer private infrared sauna suites, red light therapy, contrast therapy with its proprietary SNØ Showers, and halotherapy (salt therapy), giving you another place to sweat and recharge.

• For the pop culture fans, here’s your neighborhood celebrity sighting of the week: Deuxmoi first reported that Olivia Rodrigo was spotted in Clinton Hill with a mystery man. We won’t out the location I quickly recognized but I will say “Clinton Hill man” does have a pretty great ring to it.

• Thinking of opening a neighborhood business, or know someone who is? NYC has unveiled more than 50 proposed reforms designed to make the process less bureaucratic, from cutting outdated permits to assigning dedicated case managers for new business owners. The package also streamlines requirements for barbershops, childcare providers, restaurants, and more, with the goal of making it easier to get businesses up and running.

• After Do or Dive’s iconic awning fell in mid-May, the beloved spot has finally replaced it with a new version that’s a close replica of the original. The awning was saved from the previous owners, so the replacement brings back a familiar piece of the neighborhood staple’s look.

The World Cup may be over, but thankfully there’s no shortage of things to look forward to around the neighborhood!

Local Happenings and New Openings

• Saison, a bakery founded by Vogue alum and Brooklyn native Sammy Rees, is opening its first brick-and-mortar bakery at 434 Hancock Street in Bed-Stuy! After five years of baking out of her apartment, Sammy is bringing her handmade cakes, classic bakes, and gluten-free treats to the new space, with everything housemade down to the jams and fillings. Designed to be welcoming and reflect Sammy’s romantic, nature-inspired aesthetic, the bakery will be open Thursday through Sunday during July and August from 8:30am until sold out, with savory pastries and sandwiches coming after Labor Day.

  

• Notes to Neighbors is bringing its community pen-pal project to Yours Truly, Brooklyn, matching neighbors for a months-long letter exchange designed to spark connection in a slower, more thoughtful way. Participants will drop off and receive one letter every two weeks from July through December, then meet their pen pal and fellow neighbors IRL at the end of the program. Sign up here!

• Last week, developers unveiled plans to transform the former Macy's building on Fulton St. into BKX, a 440K sq. ft. entertainment, dining, and retail destination. Instead of a traditional shopping center, the 5-story space is being designed around immersive experiences, flagship retailers, restaurants, wellness concepts, and cultural programming, all centered around a dramatic public atrium while preserving the building's historic architecture.

  

• If you love peeking at Clinton Hill real estate, this new StreetEasy listing on Washington Ave. is worth a scroll. Set inside a converted 1930 maritime workshop, the loft features 13-foot ceilings, exposed timber beams, massive factory windows, an original skylight, and a custom kitchen centered around a brass- and crema marble-clad peninsula. With just four residences in the building, it’s a reminder of how many hidden industrial gems are tucked throughout the neighborhood.

Local Happenings and New Openings

• BK MAG named Welcome Home one of the “Best New Bakeries in Brooklyn Right Now” and we couldn't agree more. Opened at the end of 2024 by Isa Steyer and Billy Wright, the neighborhood bakery has quickly become a favorite for its laminated pastries, loaves of bread and warm atmosphere. They're recently back from their summer break, so stop by to show the team some love. And if you need a recommendation, start with the cinnamon rolls we've been raving about in our recent feature.

  

• Bar Camillo in Bed-Stuy is saying goodbye, with its final day of service set for July 12. The team is turning its focus to Locanda and Camillo, where they’ll be introducing new dishes, hosting events, and serving gelato year-round.

• BAM is opening its Peter Jay Sharp lobby as an official NYC Cooling Center this summer, offering a free, air-conditioned space to cool off, recharge, or simply take a break. Stop by Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 30 Lafayette Ave., where restrooms and water bottle filling stations are also available.

• A sweet treat with an even sweeter mission: Candor Candy donated $750 to CHiPS in June and is continuing to support local food banks through its "Candy Can Do Good" initiative. • After an electrical fire next door to Bar Birba, the team has launched a GoFundMe to help cover staff wages and other expenses while they work through the insurance process and prepare to reopen. Midnight Release Party (10:30pm – 12am): Greenlight Bookstore is hosting a late-night celebration for the release of the final Heartstopper graphic novel. Tickets are $25 and include a copy of the book, along with trivia, themed refreshments, activities, prizes, and a midnight countdown.

Tuesday & Wednesday, July 7&8:

BBQ Night (5:30pm+): The Fly is bringing back their BBQ night to celebrate summer in a saucy way. They’re switching up their iconic chickens for the night with smokey BBQ and have a bunch of other summer sides to go with it. The nights are walk-in only so plan accordingly.

Thursday, July 9:

New York Review of Architecture Summer Party (7pm+): Cool off with an evening of drinks, conversation, and community at DSK in Fort Greene. Tickets include entry plus your choice of the NYRA Guide to New York City or a limited-edition poster, with door prizes from the NYRA archives up for grabs throughout the night. Here’s what’s happening this week:

✨ Local Happenings and New Openings ✨

• Latin American inspired bakery and cafe La Mestiza are opening right by the park in Fort Greene this fall. After mostly sharing their take on Ecuadorian flavors through pop-ups, the husband and wife duo is finally settling into their own place.

  

• The Fort Greene tennis courts are back open for the summer. After hosting their reopening party last weekend, the courts are once again buzzing with players of all ages. You can check out the events hosted by the Fort Greene Tennis Association in their 2026 calendar.

• Only Child, the highly anticipated new bar from the team behind Frog Bar, officially opens this Friday, June 26. The Bed-Stuy spot will welcome its first guests from 5 pm to 2 am, bringing a new late-night option to the area.

• Leon & Son have launched their largest wine auction yet, featuring curated bottles from around the wine world. The auction closes July 2, with bottles available for shipping or pickup at the Fulton Street store.

• The World Cup is in full swing, and we’ve rounded up some of the best spots in the neighborhood to catch the matches. Check out our guide for where to watch, and keep an eye on our Instagram Stories for additional watch parties and game-day specials throughout the tournament.

• Nordic inspired restaurant, Smør, is showing the World Cup games in their under-the-radar backyard, and have introduced the “Smør Pass” with drinks inspired by different countries, and once you collect 6 you get a prize! They have happy hour from 4–6pm every day (even weekends) with cocktails, beer, and snacks.

Thursday, June 25:

Pool Tournament (7 pm): Tonight, The Emerson Bar is hosting a pool tournament. There is a $50 buy-in with double eliminations, following BCA hybrid rules. Even if you don’t play, it will be a fun event to spectate at.

Friday, June 26:

Sips & Check Ins (6–10 pm): The Franklin is hosting an event to kick off the summer and celebrate community member Amber’s 32nd birthday. Be sure to check the zodiac color guide before you go as guests are encouraged to wear their sign's color.

Saturday, June 27:

Back to the Block Party (9am–6pm): Father-son DJ duo Saint James Joy are hosting an all-day family-friendly event at their local church. Expect great music, food trucks, BBQ, and a bounce house for the whole family to enjoy. Stop by for a quick visit or stay a while as they’ll be going all day.

Yoga in Fort Green Park (11 am): Bring your mat and water bottle for a free hour long yoga class on the Passive Lawn #1. This is one of many classes for the season hosted by Shala Teachers, rotating weekly.

Pet Club Goodies Day (12–3 pm): Stop by with your pups to try out some free samples, get a pup cup for your fur baby and enter raffles to win some larger prizes (while supplies last).

Writers United Open Mic + Storytelling (7pm): Adanne Bookshop is hosting an open space for writers to share anything they’d like, as well as two featured writers. They have 10 performance slots for the open mic and will have refreshments and snacks available.

Sunday, June 28:

Happy Birthday to House of Wonder (10am–12pm): With the help of kids’ clothing company Magnetic Me, House of Wonder is throwing a birthday party to celebrate its first full year. They’ll have crafts and a bunch of other exciting surprises for the kids.

Famous Last Words Game. Set. Set List. (2–7pm): Famous Last Words is hosting 6 DJs for an afternoon of music, specialty drinks sponsored by Grey Goose (including the iconic Honey Deuce), raffles, and giveaways. Each DJ will be spinning 40-minute sets and 15% of all drink proceeds will go to Kings County Tennis League to bring tennis, education, and enrichment to the youth across Brooklyn.
